Cleaning the children’s room
If you can’t see the color of the carpet anymore because everything is cluttered with toys, it means that your child has a different idea than you about what order means, and you should start an active organizing offensive, to make sure that cleaning the childrens room is not just an abstract notion in the future.
In most cases, especially because you have different visions, you will have to offer you helping hand and teach the childrens the basic rules for keeping a nice looking room.
All this will have to start with writing down a set of strict rules, otherwise all your work would be in vain and the chaos will install again faster than you would have thought. Sit down with your childrens and put together a basic to-do list, some chores that will assure a nice environment. This list could include folding clothes, putting the toys in the appropriate storage, putting the books back on the shelves, eating breakfast in the dining room or in the kitchen (not in bed) etc. After that, by agreement, set one day of the week to be dedicated to cleaning the room. Explain to him that the house in which he lives is also his responsibility. Make him want to do this so you don’t have to punish him with things like limiting his access to the computer. Be firm, but understanding.
Organizing the childrens room
Organizing the childrens room can be the one thing that will most ease your work, while also making it easier for the kid. Use boxes and baskets to store small items and label them to be easier to identify. If your child can’t read yet, use funny drawings to show him where to find the socks, cubes or LEGO.
Once every few months rearrange the room and involve your childrens as much as possible in this activity. When he does things himself, he will be motivated to keep them good looking.
